Glorious 3 day weekend

Who does not love a 3 day weekend?!  We have so much fun in the works, I can hardly stand it.

  • Lunch date with a friend that I have not seen in so long.
  • David and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary!  My parents will be watching Little B while we go out on a real, romantic date.  I am so excited to have an uninterrupted conversation with my husband.
  • Little B will be have her first day at the pool.  Her swimsuit is retro-style navy blue with polka-dots.  She is going to look so cute.
  • David and I will be sleeping in as my parents watch Little B and make us breakfast.  Is there a better gift?  I think not!
What are yall doing this weekend?  Whatever it is, I hope you have a fun, safe, wonderful weekend.

Tomato Babies

Our first tomatoes are coming through in the garden!  I am so excited.  Soon we will be all about homemade salsas, fresh pico, and fresh tomato salad with basil.

A photo a month

I came across this blog where a mom made a commitment to take a picture with her kids at least once a month.  I love this idea.  We have so many pictures of Little B, but so few with both of us in them.  And even less with all 3 of us - David, me, and Little B.  So my resolution to myself, at least once a month Little B and I will takes pictures of ourselves together.

Happy Anniversary

Happy anniversary to my wonderful husband.  David, I would choose you all over again!

Texas pride

I love living in Texas.  One of the reasons, we are obnoxious with pride!

Hooray for sock monkeys

David is obsessed with the sock monkey in the Kia commercial.  He just thinks it is funny and now wants get a sock monkey for Little B.  So it has me thinking, how is the heck do you make one of those?  I love how you ask the universe of the web and it always delivers...

Places you should clean after being sick

I came across this article over on Apartment Therapy about the places you should clean after you have been sick.  This is especially relevant to me these days with all of us finally getting over our Month of Sick.  They have some pretty interesting tips, but I do feel that they are missing one big place to clean... the remote.  I always clean those with alcohol after being sick.

Mish-mash dinner

Dinner tonight consisted of chips and guacamole, salsa, ice cream and a bit of wine.  And for whatever reason, it all just felt right.  It has all the basic food groups covered - vegetables, carbs, dairy, and fruit (grapes in the wine). Sometimes is good to have a mish-mash dinner every once in a while.

Happy Friday

Yeah, it's the weekend!  This week has been productive and crazy busy, but all good things.  Now I am ready for a great weekend with the Fam.  This weekend we will be enjoying...
  • Friday night pizza night
  • Gardening
  • Spending time with family as we celebrate Little B's baptism
  • LOST series finale
What are yall doing this weekend?

A girl and her dog

Little B loves her puppies.  Wrigley is mildly amused with her.  Jobie could care less.  But every time those dogs trot into the room, Little B's whole face lights up and she squeals in excitement.  It is really cute to watch.  Sometimes when I am trying to get dinner made, I put Little B in her bumbo right in front of the back door so that she can watch the dogs chase squirrels, lay on the back porch, and stare back at her wanting to come in (her favorite!).  I have a feeling that when Little B starts eating more solid finger foods and starts throwing them to the ground, Wrigley and Jobie will have a change of heart and they will all become BFF's.

What the heck is that?

What the heck is that?!  That can not be a real dog.  Oh, but it is.  It is called a puli.

A girl's best friend - a remote?

Little B has a new favorite toy... her remote. If we let her, I bet she would sleep with it.

Mustaches all around

Check out these sweet mugs! These would perk up my morning coffee for sure.

Heavy Heart

I have such a heavy heart right now.

One of my employees had her baby girl this week and now her baby girl is in the fight of her life.  She is a beautiful Down's Syndrome baby (not expected) with complications with her heart and intestine.  She was rushed into surgery immediately after delivery and survived the surgery.   But she is not out of the woods.

My heart aches for my friend.  I can not imagine what she is going through.  But knowing my friend, she will handle this all with a raw grace that is quite inspiring.

It is stuff like this that just puts it all back into perspective.  Life is not for weary and faint of heart.  No not at all.  You have to be strong, stubborn, brave, and tenacious because when you get beat down, you have to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and say "Damn It, I am here to play!"

So to this new, beautiful baby girl - stay strong little one.  You may be tiny, but you are mighty. And this world is not done with you yet. Fight with all you have for you are loved more than you can imagine.

R & R weekend

This weekend we are all about laying around and healing.  Chicken soup, antibiotics, and lots of naps.  I wish that I could say that our weekend was full of mojitos, late nights with friends, and dinners on the town.  But who am I kidding?  This is the less glamorous side of motherhood that no one tells you about. But even now that I am in the midst of it,  I still would not trade it for the world.  Little B's laughs and babbles make me smile through all the snot.

Building the immune system

So we are sick yet again in our crazy household.  This sucks!  Little B is on her 3rd back-to-back cold and 2nd round of antibiotics.  And of course she has passed this latest and greatest on to me.  I know that everyone says that this is expected when little ones start daycare. It is how they build their immune systems.  But I am wondering how long I should expect that we will be in this weird cycle of sick after sick.  So to any of yall that have been through this before, give it to me straight.  Are we talking weeks? months? years?

She's down, but not out

Poor baby is sick, can't breathe through her nose AND is teething.  But she still has enough energy to play.  Good girl!

What it means to be a momma

I love this photo by Elliot Erwitt.  I think it captures what it means to be a momma.

Calm during the storm

So last week's run to the emergency room taught me something about myself... I am eerily calm in a crisis so long as I have a plan.  You always wonder how you will react in certain events - but you never really know until you are in it.
As we were driving to the ER, my mind just went into auto-pilot.  I did a mental checklist - call David, find my epi-pen, determine closest hospital, plan Little B's pickup from daycare, etc, etc.  And for whatever reason, this calmed me.  Weird, huh?  I think so.

Happy Mothers' Day

This is my first Mothers' Day ever!  We are celebrating with a wonderful breakfast of french toast, bacon, mangos, and french-pressed coffee - all prepared by David.  Later on we will go on a long walk, maybe by the lake, followed up by some reading on the back porch (such an indulgence these days), and then a lovely dinner on the grill.  Low-key and fabulous - just the way I want it.

Stupid peanuts

Sorry for the delay in postings, my lovely readers.  We had a bit of an emergency this past week and spent an afternoon in the hospital.  I had a run-in with some peanuts.  And for those of you who know me well, you know that peanuts and I do not mix at all.

But all is well now.  I am at home recovering and spending lots of time with Little B and David.

Get-Out-Of-Dodge Weekend

Happy Monday!

So as many of you know, last week was a doozy, and not in a good way!  My philosophy with rough weeks is that is best to leave them in the dust.  So we had a Get-Out-Of-Dodge weekend to round out the Birthday Extravaganza week.

David was headed out to a Bachelor Party weekend, while Little B and I headed to San Antonio to hang with some good friends.  You know that you have some wonderful, life friends when you show up on their doorstep looking all frazzled, exhausted, and beat-up... and with some good conversation, food, laughter, and mojitos, you leave as a new woman ready to conquer the world again.

The babies played while we dangled our legs in the pool and daydreamed of all the wonderful summer adventures to come.  To P & C, you are the best of friends that a girl could ever hope for.
